White printing
Dragons printed from white filament
We have had lots of problems with the white filamentThis is the plastic which is used as a source for the printRead more in the past, but we ran out of the gold one and had to try it again. It seems our fine tuning of the printer in the last several months has eliminated the cause which prevented us to use the while PLA! The printing went smoothly and without any problems.
If you look really closely at the picture use can see the dragon on right side is a bit finer printed than the left one. And you are right. We experimenting with more precise settings: we set the layer height to 0.1 mm instead of the previously used 0.2 mm. The result is much smoother, but the printing time is significantly longer. Fortunately the slicer has a setting to do the infill only every second or third layer, which means only the outer shell is printed with the fine settings, the inside has taller layers. This way the printing time wasn't doubled with the doubled precision, the increase was only 20-30 percent.
Although the results are promising, we are not sure we'll switch entirely to the fine printing. Our printer is already very slow - when we built it the most important thing was not speed, but quality - and slowing down even more is not really welcome. But it is sure we will print the most detailed models with fine settings to make them even more stunning!
