Trying out nylon
The third material we used for printing
Before we could print anything with our old printer we had to replace the spring of the bed, because the previous ones were too weak. We ordered special springs for the bed designed for 3D printers and they are working perfectly. The previously experienced movement of the bed had gone.
The experiment with the nylon went pretty well at first. We found the perfect temperature quickly, but we realized quickly that nylon does not stick to the kapton tape we use for the PLA printing.
After some research it turned out the right material for the bed for nylon printing is bakelite. We ordered a sheet of bakelite for the printer immediately and we put it on when it has arrived. It turned out that bakelite is burned by the hotendThis is where the plastic actually melted. It is part of the extruder which contains the pusher and the barrel as well. during the print, so it is nearly not as long-living as the kapton tape for the PLA print.
After several errors and warped up prints we started another research. Especially because our prints were definetly white despite the fact we used transparent nylon filament.
It turned out that nylon is absorbing moisture from the air. It has to be dried and keep it dry, otherwise the water turns into steam during the print. We could dry it somehow, but unfortunately keeping it dry is a lost battle for us. We are cursed with high humidity in our flan even in the middle of a very hot summer. So we took the nylon printing aside till we figure out something.
